Project Management 101

Ideas are plentiful. Implemented ideas are rare.

Getting anything actually completed is a project.  And the more complex and expensive the project, the more careful upfront planning pays off.  No wonder project management is a discipline all unto itself.

What's different? A heads-up, table-top quotation "game" allows the light lecture to be understood and tested in a quick, competitive way.

Output: Fun, competitive understanding of a Gantt Chart and its value in planning.

Options:
  • Migration to PM software:  After this "analog" game, a second module can be added to introduce project management software. Teams then repeat their construction bids with the software.  Updated results are shared and discussed.
  • Advanced scenarios:  A third module can challenge teams, using their software project plans, with real-life scenarios that effect the planning and implementation (like, delays, constraints, higher risk taking...).
